The family of a former Chicago Bear who committed suicide throws their support behind a measure to ban tackle football for kids.
They joined State Rep. Carol Stente in Chicago to introduce the Dave Duerson Act. Duerson killed himself in 2011. Doctors later discovered he had CTE.
The bill would prevent kids 12 & under from playing tackle football. The idea is to reduce the number of hits to their head.
“We have an obligation to protect children’s futures, especially when we know how brain trauma can be prevented,” said Tregg Duerson, Dave Duerson’s son. “At a young age, football should be about learning the basic techniques.”
If passed, the bill will only allow kids to play touch football.
