A Northern Illinois University Police Department K-9 Officer is now safer while doing her job, thanks to a generous donation.
Explosive Odor Detection (EOD) K-9 Officer Miley will now be suited with a bullet/stab-proof vest courtesy of a donation to Vesting America’s Police K-9’s by Julie Castile and her family. The vest was given to Miley and her handler, Officer EB Slouka.
Miley, a six-year-old Belgium Malinois, has worked with Officer Slouka and the NIU Police Department for the past five years. She is trained to search for and detect explosive odors.
The NIU Police Department has two EOD K-9s which they call “significant assets for the college and invaluable tools for the department and the community it serves.”
