The owners of a Rockford bar, which has been the scene of two shootings since March, have agreed to keep it closed for now.

A meeting before the Rockford Liquor Control Commission scheduled for Friday was canceled after the bar’s owners, Transmetro Inc., agreed to close the ‘On the Rocks Bar & Grill’ at 3457 Merchandise Dr. indefinitely.

Their liquor license was suspended following a shooting in the early morning hours of August 25th in which a man was shot in the parking lot.  While his injuries were described as minor, it was the second early morning shooting at the bar in six months.

In the first incident on on March 27th, a man and a woman were both wounded after gunfire erupted in the bar’s parking lot.

A city official says that Transmetro will have to request a re-hearing if they wish to have the suspension of their liquor license lifted.
