A local hospital held a special meet and greet with their therapy dogs.
Dozens of dogs, employees, and patients mingled in the lobby of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon. Patients got the chance to acquaint themselves with the hospital’s furry helpers. Employees say the dogs can make a big difference in a patient’s life.
“There’s evidence, based research out there, that says that dogs like, lower blood pressure and help reduce stress,” said therapy dog owner Theresa Geraci. “So, we love having the dogs in here. As a matter of fact, today, I had two people come up to me and say how much the therapy dogs really helped their family members who were in the hospital.”
The therapy dog program started nine years ago. It was the first program of its kind in Rockford.
