A local church, destroyed in a fire during the storms on Thursday, held one last special service Sunday morning.
Members of Zion Community Church in Pearl City congregated in the church’s parking lot. The majority of the building was heavily damaged after what is believed to be a lightning bolt hit the bell town on the church’s steeple Thursday evening. The church meant so much to the members the pastors knew they had to hold one last service there for them.
“The church meant a lot to a lot of people and even at this state of disrepair that it’s in, we thought it would be really meaningful to be here and hold a service right here on our grounds one last time before we go through a process of rebuilding,” Co-Pastor Wayne Fischer following the special service.
The church is over 150 years old. The official cause of the fire is still being looked into. Meanwhile, members met Sunday night to decide where they will meet until the church is rebuilt.
