Machesney Park voted against restricting access to a small island located in Williams Park on the Rock River, which locals have dubbed “Pee Island” on Monday.

The island attracts boaters who like to park along the beach and spend time there.

The Village Administrator says there has been an increase in activity on the island in recent years, leading to noise complaints from residents living nearby.

“Sometimes, late at night, the music does get loud,” said Kurt Yeoman, a neighbor. “It’s really quiet in this neighborhood, and when there’s loud music down there past dark, you can hear it a long ways.”

The increase in noise complaints led to the consideration of an ordinance that would prohibit boaters from docking there.

Board members ultimately decided not to pass it on Monday, after hearing from members of the boating community.
