A local pilot walked away from a plane crash alive after the plane’s engine quit mid-flight on Thursday.
Stephenson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the reported crash shortly before 8 p.m. in a field west of N. Hogback Road. An investigation indicated the two-seat aircraft was eastbound when its engine shut off causing it to crash.
The plane’s pilot, Mark Baker, of Orangeville, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was the only occupant in the aircraft.
Orangeville Fire Department assisted at the scene.
