Plane Catches Fire on O’Hare Runway

UPDATE:  Officials now say pieces from a blown tire ignited an engine on the right side of the plane.

All passengers and a dog were evacuated, with twenty people suffering minor injuries.

A backup plane was available to take passengers who still wished to fly to Miami to their destination.


A plane caught fire at O’Hare International Airport Friday afternoon.

American Airlines said the incident involved Flight 383 bound for Miami that was forced to abort takeoff due to a blown tire.  No one was hurt, and all passengers have reportedly safely evacuated.
