The Belvidere Police Department and federal agents are investigating after a Belvidere gun store was robbed twice over the past week.

The first took place on Wednesday, January 3, just before midnight. Three individuals forced their way into Big Linney Firearms on Southtown Drive. Police responded after the store’s alarm activated. When they arrived, the suspects had fled and several firearms were missing.

Then, on Monday, January 8, alarms sounded around 10:15 p.m. at the same location. Police arrived to find damage to the front of the business, suggesting entry was limited.

Witnesses observed a getaway vehicle at the second incident as a late ’90s to early 2000s “boxey” red vehicle with a broken passenger window and loud muffler.

Last month, two Loves Park gun shops were robbed on the same night. One of them, KAP Guns, was also robbed two weeks prior, and a third time earlier in 2017. Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble says his department is working in coordination with Loves Park Police to determine if any of the incidents are related.

Anyone with information on any of the burglaries is asked to call Belvidere Police at 815-547-6433 or Boone County Crimestoppers at 815-544-7867.
