Rockford Police have arrested a 16-year-old teen in connection to Saturday’s deadly shooting on Fairview Avenue.

On Saturday, police responded to the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue to find a 16-year-old teen who had been killed by a single gunshot to the head.

Detectives say the shooting appears to have been an accident, and no foul play is suspected.

However, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney did bring charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons against another 16-year-old who was with the victim at the time of the shooting.

The identity of the juvenile has not been released due to his age. He is currently being held in the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center.
