Police arrest Rockford man suspected of shooting man, beating pregnant woman

33-year-old Montez Pennie was arrested by Rockford Police, who say he shot a 29-year-old man on Score Street after beating a pregnant woman on Monday.

Rockford Police say they were called to the 600 block of Score Street shortly before 2 a.m., where they located the the victim sitting in a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives identified Pennie as a suspect. Police say the shooting occurred after a fight with a woman with whom Pennie had a domestic relationship with. She was also beaten during the incident, but not seriously hurt, according to police.

Pennie was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon, Aggravated Battery to a Pregnant Woman, and no FOID card.

He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail and held on a $1 million bond.
