A police pursuit initiated by a Rockford Police Officer ended with a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy involved in a crash with the vehicle being pursued.
The pursuit began Tuesday afternoon on 6th Street when the officer believed he spotted a vehicle matching the description of one involved in a shooting on Monday. Both Winnebago County and State Police were called in to assist. The pursuit continued until it reached 23rd and Charles Streets when the vehicle and a Ford Explorer driven by a Sheriff’s Deputy crashed, both ending up in a ditch. Both vehicles have significant front end damage.
The deputy and the two male suspects he was pursuing were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials would not specify at this time which shooting they believed the suspects committed, or whether he was the actual shooting suspect they were seeking.
