A traffic detail targeting high crash areas of Rockford netted 69 citations on Tuesday.
Rockford Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit conducted the patrols in the areas of Charles Street from 9th Street to Parkside Drive, and Broadway from 9th Street to Alpine Road. Authorities were hoping to raise awareness of safety-related traffic violations and to reduce the overall number of crashes in the areas.
Based on data, the areas were selected due to an increase in injury-crash severity there.
Officers conducted 56 vehicle stops during during the detail, the results of which are:
- 40 speed-related citations
- 12 cell phone usage citations
- 9 insurance violations
- 7 seat belt violations
- 1 driver’s license violation
Police plan additional safety-related traffic enforcement details in the future.
