Police: drunk driver drove into Beloit parade route

BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) – A suspected drunk driver drove into the Beloit Holiday parade Friday, according to police.

Investigators told Eyewitness News Curtis Metz, 38, of Darlington drove through a barrier at Grand Avenue and Park Avenue. Officers tried to get him to stop, but said he continued driving into the parade route. Officers tried to steer him away from the route, but did not pursue Metz once he entered the route.

No one was injured.

Once Metz exited the route, police said they pursued him into South Beloit where he stopped his car in a cornfield near Prairie and Rockton Roads. He and a passenger were taken into custody. The passenger was wanted for unrelated charges out of Green County, Wisconsin.

Metz hasn’t officially been charged yet. However, he could be charged with his 5th OWI, knowingly fleeing an officer, driving on a revoked license, obstructing an officer, and reckless driving.
