Police identify woman killed in fatal Freeport stabbing

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) - Freeport Police have identified 21-year-old Gabriel Petsche, of Monroe, Wisconsin, as the victim of a fatal stabbing on Friday.

At 5:11 p.m. Friday evening, officers were called to the intersection of West Avenue and Pleasant Street on the report a man was physically assaulting a woman at the scene of a single vehicle crash.  Officers found the woman on the ground near a vehicle that had hit a snow pile.  Investigators say Petsche was stabbed multiple times in her back, abdomen, and head.  She was taken to an area hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police have confirmed that a child was present in the car at the time of the incident.

A short time later, 23 year-old Chad Blaser was found near by.  He was arrested and taken to an area hospital to treat minor cuts to one of his hands.  Police say Blaser is the ex-boyfriend of the victim.

Blaser has been charged with three counts of First Degree Murder, 3 counts of Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Unlawful Restraint, Aggravated Domestic Battery, Domestic Battery with a Prior Conviction, Domestic Battery, and Child Endangerment. He is being held at the Stephenson County Jail on a $400,000 bond.
