Police investigate after Rockford woman killed while crossing Auburn St.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) ─ Rockford Police investigate after a woman is killed while crossing Auburn Street.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of Auburn Street, just west of North Rockton Avenue, around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say a 53-year-old Rockford woman was walking north across Auburn Street when a red SUV, traveling westbound, struck her.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her identity has not been released.

Investigators with the Rockford Police Department’s Traffic Unit are reconstructing the scene.

Drivers are asked to stay away from the scene.
