Police looking for suspects in car-to-car shooting on E. State Street

Rockford police are looking for the suspects who opened fire in a car-to-car shooting on E. State Street.

At approximately 6:36 p.m. on Tuesday, the occupants of two cars began shooting at each other near the intersection of 12th Street and E. State Street, near SwedishAmerican Hospital. 

Witnesses say two vehicles, occupied by members from two rival gangs, encountered each other and exited their vehicles and began shooting at each other. A third vehicle was seen leaving the area.

According to witnesses, fourteen shell casings were found at the scene. An unoccupied vehicle parked on the 100 block of 12th Street was hit by a bullet. A house in the 1800 block of Charles Street was also hit by gunfire, but no one was injured.
