Police took two men into custody, believed to be responsible for several armed robberies committed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

One of those incidents took place on Christmas night in the parking lot of Kona Liquor on W. State. Following the robbery there, police tracked down the suspect vehicle, a maroon SUV, near the intersection of Kishwaukee and 15th. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled.

Following a pursuit, the SUV crashed near the intersection of S. Main and Clifton. Two suspects were taken into custody, a third got away.

The two arrested were identified as Paul Holliman, 32, of Rockford, and Frank Benjamin, 31, of Rockford. Benjamin was released without charge following a review by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. He has since been charged with possession of stolen property, and is once again wanted by police.

Holliman has been charged with resisting and obstructing police. He has since bonded out.

Investigators continue to investigate several robberies and the possibility that they are all related to this one.
