Rockford Police say that a follow up investigation into a two-year-old shot at a Rockford home last week has put in doubt the original story that the injuries occurred during a home invasion.

Officers were originally told following the shooting last Thursday in the 800 block of Concord Avenue that an unknown black male had forced his way into the house, armed with a handgun, and opened fire, hitting a two-year-old toddler.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Based on new information, police say the incident didn’t happen as originally reported. They did not provide anymore information. An investigation is ongoing.

Timothy Sikes, 26, was arrested at the scene on unrelated charges to the shooting. He was wanted for an outstanding probation violation warrant.
