It’s been over a month since the body of 27 year-old Nakiela Thompson of Milwaukee was found at a truck stop in South Beloit. 50 year-old Marco Rodriguez of Beloit was arrested and charged with allegedly hiding a corpse. After weeks of investigating, officials say Rodriguez confessed to dumping Thompson’s lifeless body.
“He indicated to them that he was present when she died,” said Rock County Detective Bureau Capt. Todd Christiansen. “[He indicated] he didn’t kill her, and that she died at an address at Huebbe Parkway.”
Investigators obtained two search warrants, including one for Rodriguez’s place of employment on Huebbe Parkway. Police say Rodriguez not only worked at R&D Tire Shop, but also lived there.
“The living quarters in there is where we concentrated the search on for items that would confirm what he was telling or what he had told the detectives,” said Christiansen.
Nearby business owners say they were confused when police raided the business on Thursday.
“There was just crime tape going across the parking lot,” said Donna Spude. “One of my employees came back from work and asked me what was going on. We had no clue.”
Spude says she’s shocked this happened next door. She adds the area is nice and never has any problems “We live and we work and we play here. It’s just kind of scary to know that happened around here.”
Christiansen adds they don’t believe Rodriguez and Thompson were strangers. “He knew her, and he had some type of relationship with her. They had been at that location on Huebbe multiple times.”
The Winnebago County Coroner says Thompson’s cause of death is asphyxiation but they’re not sure on the exact details on how she died.
