Police Search for Fugitive Who Ran Into Corn Field Near Pecatonica

News

Police are searching for a man that ran from officers and hid in a cornfield near Pecatonica.

It began when police were called to the 200 block of West 11th Street in Pecatonica for a report of Domestic Battery Thursday morning.  When they arrived, they say the suspect, Kastan Turpin, fled into a nearby cornfield off of West State Road.

Officers from Durand and Pecatonica Police, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, and Illinois State Police set up a perimeter, called in K-9 units, and even an infrared technology unit to search for Turpin, but he is not yet in custody.  Nearby schools were also locked down as a precaution.

Police say they are not sure if Turpin is armed, and area residents are urged to stay aware of their surroundings.
