Governor Elect J.B. Pritzker named his newly formed ‘Educational Success Committee’ on Tuesday, after making education one of his biggest issues on the campaign trail.
The committee will help Pritzker identify the issues he’ll need to handle right out of the gate.
“Addressing the teacher shortage and the crisis we are facing in many parts of the state today, to fill classrooms,” said Sen. Andy Manar (D) of Bunker Hill. “Another issue is the exodus of students from higher education. We have seen statistics over recent years that we are losing kids to regional universities outside of Illinois. We have to stem that tide.”
Critics raised concern over the lack of diversity in Pritzker’s committee. It includes three state senators and three state representatives, all Democrats.
