A Beloit airman missing for more than 60 years finally comes home.
Police and bikers from Vets Roll escorted the hearse carrying Airman George Ingram’s body from Milwaukee’s airport, and made the 70 mile ride to a Beloit funeral home. Dozens of people showed up and held American flags to honor him.
Ingram died in 1952 when his plane crashed in Alaska. His family was there to receive him. Despite never meeting him, they told Eyewitness News they’re happy he’s finally home.
“For his body to be found after all these years and for us to have closure and for him to be given military rites and honors is a blessing to our family,” said Ingram’s cousin Bethany Bolton. “[It’s] a blessing to this country.”
Ingram’s funeral will be at 10am Thursday at the Eastlawn Cemetery on Milwaukee Road.
