Beginning today the Rockford Police Department will cease sending a police officer to the scene of a minor car crash - one in which no injuries occur - and instead directing them to the nearest police district station to file a written report.
Drivers who are involved in crashes between the hours of 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Friday, and Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m, will receive instructions if they call the non-emergency police number, to exchange names, addresses, phone numbers, insurance information and vehicle registration numbers at the scene, before reporting to the district station.
Stations are located at:
District 1 - 1045 W. State Street
District 2 - 1410 Broadway
District 3 - 557 S. New Towne Drive
Any crash that occurs outside of those hours, or that do involve an injury should call the non-emergency number at 815-966-2900.
