Renovated building unveiled at Illinois State Fair

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) – An iconic building at the Illinois State Fair gets a makeover.

The 118-year-old structure was re-named the ‘Coliseum of Champs’.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker joined other state and local leaders for a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday.

The Coliseum was condemned back in 2016.

Construction crews completed the renovations.

The building is mostly used for events like horse racing and concerts.

“The theme of this year’s state fair is building our future. Making sure that we’re shaping a world that works for generations to come for Illinoisans yet to come, and that applies to this building,” said Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

The Illinois State fair ends August 18th.
