Report: Pritzker to double salaries of key staffers out of his own pocket

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Illinois' billionaire Governor-elect J.B. Prizker plans to double the salaries of some of his key staffers out of his own pocket.

The transition team announced the move just days ahead of his inauguration.

Pritzker created the limited liability company East Jackson Street so Pritzker could pay some of his staff in addition to their government salary.

“The governor-elect is committed to recruiting top talent to state government to best address the challenges Illinois faces,” Pritzker spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh said in a statement. “As a result, an LLC has been created that will enable the governor-elect to personally compensate some staff in addition to their government salary.”

Pritzker wants to offer cabinet members salaries 15 percent higher than current law allows to lure top talent.

The House Executive Committee has approved a plan pushed by the incoming governor to increase salaries he can offer his cabinet.

The double pay will apply to 20 positions in total, including Pritzker's three deputy governors, Dan Hynes, Christian Mitchell and Jesse Ruiz, chief of staff Anne Caprara, deputy chiefs of staff, and other officials.
