Residents escape from fiery apartment building early Sunday morning


Early Sunday morning, a fire in an apartment complex on Cameron Avenue forced residents to flee their home.

The Rockford Fire Department was called to 306 Cameron Ave at 1:22 a.m. Sunday morning, to find flames visible on the third floor of a three-story apartment complex. 

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 14 minutes. They then searched the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. In total, thirty-one firemen were on scene.

No one was injured but two cats were killed.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The damage is estimated at $10,000.
