Residents React to Extended Standoff after Saturday Morning Shooting


A stand off in Rockford has SWAT teams on scene for hours after shots rang out early Saturday morning. It happened around 5:30 A.M. Police had blocked off Rockton avenue from Whiteman and Horsman Streets. 

“It’s actually pretty scary because it hits close to home,” says Desheona Spears.

Rockford Resident Dasheona Spears witnessed a stand off in her Rockford neighborhood. Police were called to a report of shots fired around 5:30 Saturday morning. 

“During the course of an altercation she advised that the person she was arguing with her, brandished the gun and fired at least one round at her,” said Rockford Deputy Chief John Pozzi.  “The person who fired the gun retreated inside of the house.”

Police believe the woman was inside with her boyfriend. The woman who was shot at is in custody.

A perimeter of yellow police tape blocked off the majority of the neighborhood, as the Rockford Police swat team gears up.”

The standoff is over and police have several people in custody. Their identities have not been released.
