It’s hard to believe that we’re just about one year away from election day!
The Winnebago County Republican Central Committee want locals to make their voices heard. The group hosted a straw poll Sunday afternoon at Veteran’s Memorial Hall. It gave citizens the opportunity to vote for their GOP preference in the presidential race and the 16th Congressional District.
While officials say the ballots seemed to be a bit all over the place, it’s just important to show people that their votes count.
“Presidential, I think everybody is still a little all over; there are so many candidates and it’s nice that [the representatives] that took the time to be here…so we can get a chance to chat with them a little bit,” said Scott Christiansen, Winnebago County Board Chairman.
“All this stuff that comes back and the policies that elected officials put in place affect us in our daily lives,” explained Frank Haney, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the Winnebago County Board Chairman seat, “so we should be engaged. And if you don’t get engaged as a voter, then someone else’s vote counts twice.”
Here are the results from Sunday’s poll:
Kasich – 29%
Cruz – 13%
Rubio – 11%
Huckabee – 5%
Trump – 5%
Bush – 3%
Fiorina – 1%
