Reverend Hands Out Gifts at Bus Station

Some people in downtown Rockford may have received a gift while waiting for the bus.

Rev. Tamara Henderson from Bondage No More Ministries handed out purses and bags filled with personal hygiene products at the bus station.  She says it’s meant to empower victims of sexual abuse or domestic violence.  Henderson hopes the gifts lets victims know if they try to escape their situation, they’ll have support.

“It’s just time to start letting people know it’s time to speak up.  So many people are still being hurt,” said Rev. Henderson.

Rockford Police says domestic violence accounts for a large chunk of the city’s crime.
