Flights to Colorado through Chicago Rockford International Airport will be suspended come January, according to Elite Airways.
The last flights to Fort Collins through Elite will be on January 4th. It’s anticipated that service will resume in late April or early May of 2016.
Officials say that seasonal suspension of service is common practice in the airline industry. They say it’s done to align equipment and capacity with shifting seasonal demands, sourcing statistics that the heaviest travel between the Midwest and Colorado is spring, summer and fall.
“Both Elite and RFD are extremely pleased with the success of the RFD to [Fort Collins] route,” said Mike Dunn, Executive Director of RFD. “We look forward to resuming service in the spring and understand Elite will soon be announcing a second destination from RFD.”
In June of 2015, RFD announced its collaboration with Elite to bring flights to both Fort Collins and Newark, New Jersey. Due to low ticket sales to Newark, Elite and RFD decided to pull that route and explore more popular destinations.
