Rock River Valley Blood Center Makes Urgent Call for O Negative Blood

The Rock River Valley Blood Center is asking anyone with O Negative blood to donate as soon as possible.

The supply of O Negative has reached extremely low levels due to usage in area hospitals. Usage over the Memorial Day holiday depleted the supply completely.

Donating is safe and most people can do it. If you are at least 17 years old (16 year olds can donate with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in general good health, you most likely qualify.

There are four community donor centers throughout the area, in Belvidere, Freeport and Rockford, as well as many mobile blood drives. For details on those locations, click here.

The RRVBC is the sole blood provider for Beloit Memorial Hospital, Edgerton Hospital, FHN, Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rochelle Community Hospital, Mercyhealth and SwedishAmerican Health System.

To make an appointment to donate blood, call 877-778-2299 or click here.
