The Rock River Valley Blood Center blood supply is running low. The center is urging people to donate all types of blood, especially with Memorial Day just around the corner. Fewer people typically donate around the holidays and that could be the difference between life or death for patients in life threatening situations.
“We’re the only supplier of blood and blood products to area hospitals,” said the Director of Operations of Rock River Valley Blood Center, Heidi Ognibene. “So if we don’t have blood on hand, if an emergency arises or something happens where they need blood [i.e.] surgeries…it’s not a good ending.”
“I feel good, I think it’s important that we all take responsibility to help one another,” said donator Dave Bennett.
The center is desperately low on platelets, the part of blood that helps it clot. One donation can save up to three lives.
