The Rock Valley College communications department is helping Harlem high school students with an important project of theirs.
It’s called the Harlem Vet Project.
It used to be an independent study course, but is now a full blown class at Harlem.
It pairs kids up with a veteran that they follow for a whole year; learning from them, researching, sharing with them, and documenting their story on camera.
The students then produce a documentary which they present to the veteran and their family in the form of a DVD keepsake so that their story continues to live on.
Their teacher said it’s a good way for students to build relationships.
