Rock Valley College Offers New 9/11 Scholarship

Rock Valley College marked the 16th anniversary of 9/11 with a new scholarship.

Students pursuing a career in law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services will be eligible to receive $350.  For now, the scholarship will only go to one student.  RVC partnered up with the 9/11 Memorial Board on the scholarship.  Board President Will Pederson said he hopes it will inspire students.

“The children that lost parents on 9/11 [are] now in college,” said Pederson.  “Time… keeps going on and keeps passing by.  We have to find a way to make a connection about why 9/11 is significant.  What its impact was.  We have to make a connection back to our youth.”

The plan is to expand the scholarship and offer it to three students, one for each field.
