Rock Valley College’s ‘Sister Conference’ hopes to inspire young women

Local students attended today’s “Sister Conference,” put on by Rock Valley College’s Intercultural Student Services Department.

The event is held every year.

Organizers say the idea behind the event is to inspire young women to believe in themselves and know that they are strong enough to overcome any obstacle.

“Just learning about the experiences that other women have and skills that they’ve learned through life that have helped them,” said Auburn junior, Kaitlyn Tresemer, about the experience.

Student Coordinator Mary Foreman said, “We hope to empower them, give them someoene that they can meet up with if they need to talk to somebody, or be with somebody, or [are] having issues, whether it could be health issues or anything personal, or whatever. They have somebody to talk to.”

All of the workshops were led by prominent female leaders from the area.
