A company, based in Rockford for more than 100 years, has officially been sold.
According to a letter sent to employees from Richard Behr, Chairman of Joseph Behr & Sons, the company was sold on Friday to St. Louis-based Alter Trading Company.
“Leaving our family business in the capable hands of our friends at Alter makes this difficult decision a little easier for me,” said Behr, in part. “We thank all of you that have helped make Joseph Behr & Sons such a success over the years.”
Behr has housed its headquarters, processing more than 700,000 tons of materials each year, in Rockford since 1906.
