Rockford casino in jeopardy as gambling bill stalls in committee

A gambling expansion bill which would have paved the way for a Rockford casino stalled in an Illinois House committee on Monday, making it unlikely to win approval before Thursday’s adjournment.

Rep. Robert Rita (D-Blue Island) said that several factors were preventing a consensus among House members, including opposition from Chicago and concerns over sweepstakes, fantasy sports betting and Internet gaming.

Rita said he intends to work with his colleagues on Senate Bill 7 over the summer.
