More than 800 people attended the Rockford Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Dinner on Thursday night at Giovanni’s Restaurant and Convention Center.
A tradition that comes with the dinner is the Chamber naming Rockford’s Citizen of the Year. The 2018 winner was Bill Roop, President and CEO of Alpine Bank. Roop has worked in the financial industry for four decades, 32 of them with Alpine Bank.
Roop has made an impact on local organizations, including the Rockford Boys and Girls Club, Rockford Rescue Mission, and Crime Stoppers. Roop was nominated because his efforts have encouraged the growth and success of his employees through mentorship and communication.
Alpine Bank is said to give nearly $1 million to over 350 organizations each year. Roop also is credited with leading the completion of the AAR facility at the Chicago-Rockford Airport, by campaigning to raise the funds which made sure the jet repair hub was finished on time.
The Citizen of the Year Award is open to any Rockford area resident who has helped to progress the community for several years.
