A Rockford church immediately took action following the deadly shootings in Orlando.
Spring Creek United Church of Christ hosted a prayer vigil this evening to remember those killed in the terror attack. A rainbow flag and umbrella donned the altar as churchgoers held candles and bowed their heads.
Church administrator Bob Black says the church has provided a safe haven to the LGBT community, so the shootings struck a nerve.
“We’re not going to live our lives in fear, but it hit close to home when we realized it could’ve easily been us that was targeted,” said Black. “We’re not going to cower in the corner, we’re going to worship on our corner and the gates of hell will not stand against us.”
