ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – Tuesday marks a somber day for the Rockford Police Department and the community. Its been two years since the death of Ofc. Jaimie Cox.
Rockford City Hall is lit with blue lights Tuesday morning. Ofc. Cox died during a traffic stop on Nov. 5th, 2017. He pulled over Eddie Patterson for driving on a revoked license and the two started fighting.
Patterson’s car took off with Cox hanging on before crashing into a tree. Cox died from the impact.
Investigators determined Patterson died after Cox shot him. The Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force ruled the shooting was justified.
The Rockford Police Dept. and Winnebago Police Department posted photos on their Facebook pages in honor of Cox’s memory.
