Rockford City Leaders Hold Moment of Silence to Honor Slain Officer

News

Rockford city leaders honored Ofc. Jaimie Cox during Monday night’s council meeting.

A packed council chamber stood in a moment of silence.  Before the proceedings got underway, Mayor Tom McNamara (D-Rockford) addressed everyone in the room.  He said he’s hopeful that Cox’s death won’t be in vain and that it’ll be the catalyst that secures Rockford’s future.

“We’re not going to be judged by the challenges that we face,” said McNamara.  “We’re going to be judged by how we respond to those challenges.  I’m hopeful this horrific event will unite us… as a community because I know when we work together as an entire city, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish together.
