Dozens of people took to the streets of downtown Rockford to pay tribute to the memory of those killed in the Orlando nightclub shooting.
Flanked by a Rockford Police biker escort, marchers made the half mile walk from Second First Church on Church Street to the Office Nightclub on East State. The Office is Rockford’s only gay club.
Some carried signs, but all carried candles in a show of solidarity for the 50 killed in Orlando, that includes the gunman, Omar Mateen.
“His death began by hate so many years ago,” Pastor Rebecca White Newgren said. “I think we can never pray too often or claim our hope too often.”
Thursday night’s vigil also honored the seven Rockford murder victims who died this year.
