A Rockford citizen foiled a burglary Monday night when he drew a firearm on a would-be burglar and chased him away.

Rockford Police said they were called to the 1000 block of W. Riverside Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. where they met with a 38-year-old man who said he was sitting in his car in a parking lot when a suspect got in the passenger side and began rummaging around.

The victim, a concealed carry license holder, pulled out his weapon and ordered the suspect out of his vehicle.

The suspect fled on foot. Police say nothing was taken and no one was hurt.

Police say they located the suspect, identified as Otis Childress, 52, a short time later and recovered drug paraphernalia on him.

Childress was charged with Burglary and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
