Rockford firefighters battle vacant house fire

Rockford firefighters battled a vacant home fire early this morning. It happened just before three in the 600 block of Catlin street on Rockford’s East Side.

Fire officials told us  on scene that a passerby spotted the flames and called 911. When crews arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames. Luckily nobody was hurt and no word yet how it started.

Officials say it is one of the homes that was set for demolition, so they allowed it to burn down.

Luckily they were able to keep the flames from spreading to the home next door which is also vacant.
