Rockford gang member accused of shooting man at Friday night gathering

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 46-year-old Murphy Doss, a known gang member, was arrested for a shooting a 27-year-old man after an argument broke out among a large group of people in a Rockford parking lot.

Rockford Police say they were called to the 400 block of South Henrietta Street around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31st. There, they located a vehicle which had been struck by gunfire.

While they were investigating, a 27-year-old victim arrived at a local hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm.

Police say a large group of people had gathered in a parking lot when an argument occurred, and Doss fired several shots before fleeing the scene on foot.

Doss was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning in the 500 block of Howard Avenue.

He is charged with two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon, Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Gang Member, and no FOID card.

He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
