Gas prices in the Forest City have risen well over a dime in the past week.
The local average now sits at $2.22 per gallon, up from $2.16 last week. This compares to the national average that is now at $2.25 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.
At this time last year, Rockford’s rate was $2.46 per gallon. The highest it has been within the last five years was back in 2012 when it reached $3.80 per gallon.
Gas analysts say the recent increase is due to crude oil prices rising over $50 per barrel.
