Rockford kids can ‘Box with a Cop’ thanks to new police program

Part of the Rockford Police Department’s strategy to fight crime involves building relationships within the community.

The youngest residents are one focus for the department, and a new activity is helping them to see police officers in a different environment.

Patriot’s Gateway Center, at 615 S 5th Street, hosted “Box with a Cop” on Tuesday evening, where Officer Eric Thurmond spoke with Eyewitness News about the new boxing program, held every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
