Rockford man and 14-year-old gang member arrested following shootout

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 30-year-old Anthony Esteves-Barrera and an unnamed 14-year-old gang member were arrested Wednesday after a shootout on Alpine Park Drive.

Rockford Police say they responded to a shooting call at 6:15 p.m. in the 4900 block of Alpine Park Drive.

Officers learned that two teen girls got into an argument and then two male suspects, Esteves-Barrera and the 14-year-old, drew handguns and began shooting at each other.

A 16-year-old girl was shot in the melee and suffered “superficial injuries.”

Police say several suspects were detained at the scene, and the 14-year-old was located in the 1100 block of Hillcrest Road. He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Esteves-Barrera was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons and no FOID card.

The juvenile was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Gang Member, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and no FOID card.

Esteves-Barrera was taken to the Winnebago County Jail. The juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
