ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO) - Police say a woman was sexually assaulted in rural Winnebago County by her ex-boyfriend on Tuesday evening.
The Rockton Police Department found a woman in need of assistance in downtown Rockton around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The female told police her ex-boyfriend forced her out of a store in Rockford and took her to the Sugar River Forest Preserve. There, she said she was beaten, strangled and sexually assaulted. She was able to escape at a gas station in Rockton.
Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputies assisted Rockton Police and Roscoe Police to arrest the suspect after a short pursuit along IL Route 2 and IL Route 75.
The suspect fought with deputies and officers while being arrested.
Charles E. Swift, 49, faces several charges: Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude and Driving after Revocation.
Police say additional charges are pending.
He is being held at the Winnebago County Jail.
